A rare double-page map of the so-called Empire of Alexander the Great (also known as the Macedonian Empire or the Hellenistic Empire ) refers to that great empire , which developed under Alexander the Great in the course of his military campaigns and established itself in its full grandeur from about 324 to 319 BC .

His empire extended over at least 20 territories of today's modern states ( Greece , Macedonia , Kosovo , Bulgaria , Turkey , Syria , Jordan , Israel , Lebanon , Cyprus , Egypt , Libya , Iraq , Iran , Kuwait , Afghanistan , Turkmenistan , Tajikistan , Uzbekistan and Pakistan ) and touched some others on their periphery ( Ukraine , Romania , Albania , Armenia and India ).
