Description
Published "Ichez le S[ieur]r de Fer. Dans l'Isle du Palais sur le Quay de l'Orloge à la Sphère Royale. Avec Privilege du Roy 1705"". Boutier, in his bibliography, does not mention this intermediate edition, he lists the first edition of 1797 then that of 1719 (B).
The plan is dedicated to "Monseigneur Messire Marc René de Voïr, de Paulmy, Marquis d'Argenson, Conseiller du Roy en ses Conseils,… et Lieutenant de Police de la ville Prevosté et Vicomté de Paris, par son très humble et très obeissant serviteur, de Fer, Geographe de Monseigneur le Dauphin" (Monseigneur Messire Marc René de Voïr, de Paulmy, Marquis d'Argenson, Advisor to the King in his Councils, ... and Lieutenant of Police of the city Provosté and Viscountcy of Paris, by his very humble and very obedient servant, de Fer, Geographer of Monseigneur the Dauphin).
D'Argenson replaced La Reynie as lieutenant general of police in January 1697.
The plan shows the boundaries of the 17 police districts (A to S) with the names of their police commissioner, as they existed before the reform of 1702.
Superb plan of Paris, in color, surrounded by 25 vignettes, each accompanied by a description, representing different aspects of the residences royal palaces of Versailles, Marly, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cyr, Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Meudon and Clagny. The plan is gridded, from 1 to 14 horizontally, from A to L vertically.
The plan is presented in a very beautiful gilded frame. Extra shipping costs apply. Contact us for a shipping quote.
