Caption reads: "The only column he can claim". Napoleon III depicted in Roman gown and Prussian cask with the clyster (against his infamous intestinal problems) over his shoulder placed on a poster pillar.
Faustin Betbeder was born in Soisson, Franc, and is well known for his cartoons from the Franco-German War of 1870 and the Paris Commune.
He lived in England after the war where he continued his career as an artist. There he made a series of caricatures of famous British personalities which he published in The London Sketch book . A magazine published until 1874 by James Mortimer, editor of The London Figaro.
