Description

Map of the Tarn department published in "Atlas Général de France", divided into departments by Donnet and Monin, geographers, with Arms and Views by Chapuy, engraved on copper and on steel by Artus, Malo, Bénard, Traversier. Paris, at M.B. Dusillon [1841].
Each card is decorated with a view of the capital of the department and a statistical text relating to the administration, agriculture, industry, trade as well as monuments and famous people.

Alexis Donnet: Geographer attached to the Cadastre, he is at the origin of an abundant cartographic work often republished. To his maps of France and around Paris are added maps of Italy and the Iberian Peninsula, and maps concerning the new railway lines.

This is one of the last decorative atlases of the 19th century.

Engraved on copper and steel by Arlus, Malo, Bénard, Traversier and others, views and coat of arms are designed by Chapuy.
