Description
A most attractive and detailed map of the region between the Black and Caspian Seas after De L'Isle. The two Seas are decorated with compass roses. This is one of the few detailed maps that focus on the countries of Armenia and Georgia.
To the east is a region labeled TARTARIE INDEPENDANTE, and divided in PAYS DES TURCMENS and ROYAUME DE CORGANG ou DE CAREZEM and TARTARES USBECS in modern-day Uzbekistan. The area shows ancient caravan routes and the "Ancien course de l'Oxus" and the current Oxus River.
The Oxus is a river, today called Amu Darya in its western part and Wakhsh in its eastern parts, which flows for a length of 2400 km across modern Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan into Lake Aral.
