Description

Original advertising poster for the French cognac brand Pellisson, printed by Imprimerie Vercasson, in Paris, designed by Leonetto Cappiello.

Leonetto Cappiello, born in Livorno on April 9, 1875 and died in Cannes on February 2, 1942, is an Italian painter, illustrator, caricaturist and poster artist, naturalized French in 1930.
Cappiello is considered, following Jules Chéret, as the renovator of the French poster.

Cognac is a wine brandy, produced in France in a demarcated region centered around Cognac, encompassing a large part of Charente, almost all of Charente-Maritime, and a few enclaves in the Dordogne and the Deux -Sèvres.
It must comply with very specific production standards and rules in order to be able to obtain the “cognac” designation. Cognac-making know-how has been included in the Inventory of French Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2020.
