Condition: Folio, title page printed within ornate woodcut compartment, final leaf blank but for woodcut device; separate divisional title for commentary printed within the same compartment. Title within an ornamented border, one leaf; 13 preliminary leaves; text, pp. 196; ?Joachimus Vadianus Helvetius candido Lectori,? one leaf, verso blank; ?Loca aliquot,? etc., 28 leaves; colophon with the device of the printer and motto, one leaf, recto blank. With Oronce Fine woodcut world map. Contemporary brown calf over wooden boards, boards are blind stamped with fillets and scroll rolls. Spine decorated with six raised bands. Binding expertly restored. The book has been cleaned and restored, a few traces of dampstaining and soiling. Map restored and margins reinforced.

Exemplaire frais intérieurement malgré d'infimes trous de vers marginaux n'affectant pas les cartes. - 3 parts in one. 8vo oblong, contemp. Brown calf. Binding used. Small marginal wormholes not affecting the maps, otherwise maps in very good condition. The general title "Diverses cartes et tables… is lacking.

With an additional 5 double-page engraved titles, 43 maps, and 28 double engraved text sheets. Partly slight marginal tears, minor signs of wear and a little age-spotted in the 4th volume are missing the panels of the province of Artois and Franche comté.

Condition: 5 volumes in 7 luxury later half leather bindings, incl. 266 plates and maps, including a folding portrait of the author, an allegorical title and engraved dedication leaf with vignette, numerous text illustrations (two full-page), and 9 folding tables. Volume 1; complete, in excellent condition with just some minor professional restorations; Volume 2; complete with minor professional restorations. Volume 3-1: complete, some water stains and damage on bottom right side of the book; Volume 3-2; complete with some foxing on title page; Volume 4-1; missing 4 portrets p 296,297,346 and 350, map p 26 is profesionally restored, two maps of Batavia later added; Volume 4-2: complete, some water stains throughout the whole book in the top right corner. Volume 5-1: complete only plate 32 is upside down. Volume 5-2: complete but with waterstains in top part of the second half of the book.<br>Overall: All plates and maps are in excellent condition if not otherwise stated. The book block 37 x 23.5 cm.

With a frontispiece, 123 mostly double page maps in original outline colour and a 4 pages manuscript list of contents. 18th century brown calf, gilt spine with raised bands (binding carefully restored). Maps in very good condition despite some small restoration work, the paper is very slightly age-toned as is usual, with a few brown spots. Generally in very fine condition.<br>The frontispiece in this example has like in the other known examples the engraved date 170[.], for this example the manuscript addition changing the date into 1746. Bound at the end we find a 4 page manuscript table of contents, according to this list the title page and 3 maps are wanting (36, 91 and 101).

Maps dated 1743-1786. This set is accompanied by a 4 pages printed broadsheet "Mémoire instructif. . . En Mars MDCCXXXII D'Anville, Geographe ordinaire du Roy. Permis d'imprimer ce 21 Mars 1732, Herault" and 4 pages manuscript text in pen and brown ink "Mémoire instructif pour faire la carte (de d'Anville)…"<br>Very good condition inside the book block, the two sheet map of Africa has slight overall browning, the others printed on fine white thick paper and coloured in outline.
