Manuscript map, in black, brown and red ink, showing the fortifications of the city of Madras, now Chennai, on the east coast of India, north of Pondicherry.
Showing the coastline with a scale in the sea, the old and new fortifications, the direct suburbs and the artillery of the French army.

In 1758, during the Seven Years' War, Lally-Tollendal, governor of India, lead the siege of the city of Madras, but in December 1758 the English succeeded in refuelling it, and Lally was to lift the siege in February 1759 . A lettered key (A-Z) in brown ink above the drawing.
